- Forbidden Plateau Trip - 1943
Aug [August] 22 Personel - G C Carl, Mrs. G.C. Carl, F.L. Beebe
Left Victoria 8:45, via 10 A.M. Ferry to Mill Bay
Lunch at Nanaimol arrive Courtenay 5:45 P.M.
There we met Mr. Lewis J. Clark and
Capt. [captain] Bob. Brindle who were to accompany
museum party to Plateau. Also met
Mrs. Eugene Croteau + "Jack" Ward (Packer)
+ made arrangements for trip on the morrow
After supper took Croteau home to
Comox + called on Mr + Mrs Hamilton Luing.
Rain in afternoon + evening.
[August] 23 [1943] Monday - clear + bright. Met Ward at
Dove Creek at 9 A.M. Two pack horses
and 1 saddle horse. Packed 200 lbs on
each of the horses + Mrs Carl rode the pony
at beginning. Left at 10:30.
Lunch at 2:30 at "Camp 5" Trail very
wet + hard going. Arrived Croteau Camp
at 7:45
Set traps + caught several Peromyscus [deer mice] before
we went to bed.
[August] 24 [1943] Up at 6:30 Bright + clear - cloudy later.
Nine mice bagged - all but one around cabins.
Spent A.M. [morning] skinning.
P.M. [evening] explored creek draining lake. Collected
salamanders in ravine.
Set traps in ravine after supper. Clark
+ Brindle to Panther Lake fishing.
