Wind dropped in night + also temp to 41 [degree symbol]
Up at 5 A.M. but nothing in either
trap line. Worked along lake (very cold)
+ up small canyon to foot of hills.
Found remains of Richardson's grouse (feathers)
left by coyote or fox. Also coyote skull (old)
under large rock. Shot a kingbird.
Ian [McTaggart Cowan] arrived + located Canyon wren
which I had head singing + succeeded
in collecting it. Saw Prairie
falcon light in rocky niche far up
face of rock. Ian [McTaggart Cowan] climbed up wall
opposite it + saw no nest.
After breakfast made skins of Clark's crow
+ Perognathus [underlined]. Late lunch; after Ian [McTaggart Cowan]
made up skins of bats which appear to
be of 3 species. Called at P.O. [post office] +
found letters, one for each. Visited dairy[?] ponds
on Osoyoos side of Lake. Saw 2 turtles in
pond nearest house. Ian [McTaggart Cowan] collect 10 Hyla [underlined] + several
Scaphiopus [underlined]. Saw muskrat. In pond
behind house saw a pr. [pair] of Wilson's Phalarope [underlined]
very tame. Collected on Bufo [underlined] which
later escaped. In pond nearest town
collect 2 Carp [underlined] feeding among Lemna [underlined]
minor along edge. Red wing blackbirds, Yellow headed
blackbirds, Mourning doves + Quail also seen.
At dusk Ian [McTaggart Cowan] shot a male McFarlane's Owl
100 yds [yards] from camp. Only a few bats flying +
mostly high; Wind of previous 2 days probably kept them low.
