- Amphibia
Aug [August] 18/44 [1944] - Spotted frogs (R. [Rana] pretiosa) seen at
Hardy Lake (ponds south of Westbank).
One adult was observed by flashlight
sitting in water at edge of pond. When gun
barrel was moved in front of its nose, it
struck at it + seized the ends of the 2 barrels in
its jaws!.
Another specimen (or the same one) was seen
on the opposite side the following a.m. [morning] It seized
a red trap marker (cloth strip) dangled in
front of its nose.
Aug [August] 23 [1944] Two specimens of R. pretiosa were
collected in stream at Yahk. Others
were seen but no tadpoles.
Aug [August] 22 + Sept [September] 1 [1944] Tree toads were heard calling at Kootenay
Lake on these dates, at Kuskonook + at
Gray Creek. A juvenile was seen at
Kuskonook on Aug [August] 22.
Aug [August] 23 [1944] Numbers of juvenile toads (Bufo boreas) were
seen along stream edge at Yahk.
