- [August] 18 [1944] Left about 9 A.M. Lunch at Madeline Lake.
Changed flat near Westwold. Stopped at Venone [Vernon?] to have
tire fixed + see boys in Ent. Lab. Left 3 p.m.
5:10 Ferry to Westbank. Camped at Hardy Lake
(series of ponds a few miles S. [south] of Westbank).
Set traps.
[August] 19 [1944] Left Hardy Lake. Stopped for turtles at pond
of pump station. Dom. Exp. Station. Penticton at
noon. Phoned [illegible word] - also S.J. Darcus
who was out. Took White Lake rd [road] to Keremeos but
missed the lake. Lunch at stream flowing toward
Keremeos. Eastern char taking grasshoppers.
Set trap on sage brush county 2-3 miles S. [south] of
Keremeos. Camped nearer town + set more traps.
[August] 20 [1944] Nothing in traps Packed + left for
Richter pass. Sunday [underlined] - not enough gas to go
further than Osoyoos so pitched camp at spot
used former collecting trip - E. [east] side of lake opp. [opposite] town.
Lunch, swim + wash. Set traps for harvest mice
+ pocket mice.
[August] 21 [1944] Traps took 2 harvest mice, 1 house mouse [written over the word "mice"],
1 shrew in damp, grainy section south of
highway 1/2 mile along E. [east] side of lake. One perognathus
[pocket mouse] in traps near camp. Packed + left camp 10:45
Lunch on Kettle river. Arrived Trail 7 pm. +
stayed at Brooks Auto camp.
[August] 22 [1944] Serviced Truck:- brakes tightened; tire repaired, gas oil etc.
Arrive Nelson 11:AM. lunch with H.H. Carrie of Nelson
News. Saw C.H. Rolinson + Mr Sinclair in Game Office.
Left 2 P.M. + caught 3 p.m. Ferry across Kootenay L. [lake]
Camped at Kuskonook near lake flats. Set traps.
