- April 14/41 [1941] Vic Goddard and scout troops collected
a number of Aneides [underlined] [salamander]
in 2 rotten logs in Locks field
(old Rithet estate) in Royal Oak. With
them were termites, sow bugs, centipedes,
millipedes etc. The Salamanders
measure as follows - (total length)
125; 124; 95 (tail regenerating?);
92; 95; 43.5; 38; 38; 42.
One of the larger salamanders appears
to contain eggs. The small specimens
are possibly in their first year.
Two small garter snakes were also
found in the same log.
Near the same area but under
stones and in rock piles a number
of Black Widow spiders were collected,
one with an eggs case. A male
of the species was also found.
