  • March 26/41 [1941] (cont'd [continued]) and spread to neighbouring ponds and streams. On several occasions escaped [word written as postcript] frogs were captured in "Kings Pond" (1/3 mile east?) and returned to point of origin but after numbers increased this was discontinued. These frogs have also been sold in owners of ponds in various parts of the city and no doubt many have escaped. Result is that this species is undoubtedly establishing itself in ponds in the neighbourhood of Victoria and will have to be recognized as an introduced species. On this same date Triturus [newt] were seen in the same ponds in mated pairs and were collected. These newts were introduced some years previously from Horne(?) Lake. Eggs of Tree toad [Hyla] were also collected (freshly laid). Skylarks were heard in open fields opposite Lohbrunners.
