E-A. Cooke reports seeing
Brant "in thousands" near Qualicum
beach + Parksville.
" [April] 7th [1941] White crowned sparrows noted in
some numbers, mainly by song
One positively identified by sight.
" [April] 8th [1941] Went to Glen lake with boat and
net. Seined once at South end +
once off Wellwoods float but no luck.
Placed net between float + neighbouring
once and baited area with bread.
On way home stopped at pond
on Millstream road. Phyllopods still
fairly numerous; many ovigerous.
Tree frog [Hyla] eggs only few days old noted.
[April] 9th [1941] Revisited Glen lake in A.M. [morning] and pulled
seine in over baited area but no fish.
Most of bait seemed to have disappeared.
Concluded seine was not extending to
bottom so brought it back to add
more lead.
Took pictures of camas + buttercups
in Uplands in P.M. [evening]
Waterlilies in bud at surface in GLen lake
Brassenia [Brasenia] just showing growth.
