  • Phyllopods [underlined] [branchioopod crustacean] June 24/42 [1942] Large numbers of phyllopods ( [space left blank] were present in milky water of 2 acre alkali lake at about mile 90 on Cariboo Rd. Many were caught by blind sweeps of the net but only in certain parts. Only occasionally could one be seen when it was just beneath the surface, the water was so opaque. Females were ovigerous. This pond also contained enormous numbers of Daphnia, some of which were preserved. Also water boatmen, Dytiscus [great diver beetle] and tadpoles (of R. cantabrigensis or pretiosa [Rana cantabrigensis aka Rana sylvatic, now known as Lithobates sylvatica - wood frog] [Rana pretiosa - Oregon spotted frog]) (For salt composition see Bull. [bulletin] #4 B.C. Dept [department] of mines) In 101 Mile Lake, ostracod-like [seed shrimp] phyllopods ( [space left blank] ) were collected in shallow water among weeds. Most by blind sweeping; only one was seen swimming. These were smaller in size as compared with the specimens collected in White Lake valley last year; also greener in colour. Phyllopods ( [space left blank] ) are also present in Mirage lake as hsown [shown] by samples submitted by A Munro in 1941.
