- Ambystoma gracile [underlined] [Northwestern salamander]
June 1st/42 [1942] Many larvae of this salamander were
seen at Beaver Lake, Stanley Park,
Vancouver, at night by flash light.
Most were in pond on east side of
foot path near the lake outlet and around
the edge of the lake at this point.
The sizes varied from 2 1/2 to
4 1/2 inches approximately. They were
most difficult to catch, swimming
rapidly in unexpected directions
at the slightest disturbance and disappear-
ing in the silty bottom. Three
only were caught.
No adults were seen. One small
specimen 3/4" [inches] in length was seen but this
was probably Triturus [underlined] [newt]. No adult
Triturus [underlined] were seen.
Two trout, one 18" [inches] the other 12-14" [inches]
were observed.
Many Hyla [underlined] [tree frog] present singing in
chorus. Several were seen.
