- Trachypterus rex-salmonorum [underlined] [Trachipterus altivelis - King-of-the-salmon]
Feb [February] 6/43 [1943] Specimen taken by John Robilliard
while trolling for salmon just off
Sooke Harbour mouth using about
8 fathoms of line.
Female - length to tail base 5' [foot] 8" [inches]
- length to end of tail 5" [foot] 11 1/2" [inches]
Robilliard reported that eggs were
expelled in boat.
This fish, obtained through Rowe's
Fish Market, is much like that taken in
Gonzales Bay on May 11/42 [1942] - badly mutilated;
pike pole hole through body, abdominal
flesh torn, head damaged, dorsal fin
mostly destroyed by thrashing in shallow waters.
No indication of elongated rays in
dorsal or in caudal and no sign
of ventral fins.
Colouration - uniform silvery
fins carmine red.
