- Ballingall Isl. [Islets] Trip [all underlined]
April 28th Left Victoria 8:15 A.M. with
Clarence Ferris and equipment for
taking coloured motion pictures.
Arrived Cowichan Bay 9:30 and left
with Archie Sherman about 10:30
Arrived at Ballingall Is. in early
afternoon to find that cormorants
were already busy nesting.
Took movies approaching island showing
birds in trees + leaving nests. Then
telephoto from 100 yds [yards] of one bird. Also
shots of individual nests. Also
birds in trees by operating camera
with string. Spent night at
Mayne Island wharf Showers.
April 29th Arrived back at Ballingall about 10 A.M.
Anchored boat S. [south] of reef + rowed to smaller
islet in dinghy. Took shots of birds
in trees from opposite side to yesterday.
Birds flew + returned in about 1/2 hr. [hour]
Got shots showing courting and nest
building. Counted nests as follows - W. [west] to E. [east]
