- Mammals [underlined]
1 Peromyscus [deer mouse] - common about buildings
especially
2 Richardon's vole - 2 juveniles only were
taken. Numerous runs, holes + other signs were
present in several portions of the meadow land
along the stream + its tributaries but no adults were
taken although traps larger than Museum Specials were
set.
3 Red-backed mouse - common in ravine
below the Cowpressor[compressor?].
4 Short tailed vole -
Fairly common
5 Weasel - one taken. One often seen
hunting ground squirrels opposite Engine house.-(Barbour)
6 Porcupine - one was seen in camp the day before
we arrived but not seen. Extensice damage to trees
was evident in forested area below buildings
7 Wolf - described as black with white
chest + grey on shoulders - up to 150 lbs [pounds].
4" [inch] tracks . - One seen by Hardy
8 Coyote - commonly seen. One observed on
Aug [August] 24 - before we arrived. Hardy saw tracks.
One seen on rd [road] Aug [August] 31.
