  • Glinz Lake [underlined] July 1942 Plethodon [lungless salamanders] July 17/42 [1942] - A single specimen was collected under rotting log near outlet of Glinz Lake, Sooke district. They do not appear to be common; about 15 lads[?] spent an hour hunting up a hillside before this specimen was seen. Aneides [underlined] [climbing salamanders] One youngster reported catching a "dark coloured salamander" which later escaped. From descriptions it seems to be this species. A very small + dessicated specimen presented for identification also seemed to be of this species - Found under stone at [illegible word] Creek, near hatchery. Triturus [underlined] [newt] Newts were exceedingly abundant in the lake in all areas but particularly at the inlet + outlet. In the latter place I caught 5 in one swoop of the net. Most appeared to be females ready to spawn (at this late date?). A few males were seen but they did not seem to be in nuptial dress. One small individual (one year old?) 3 1/2 inches in length was found under log by outlet stream.
