- Amphibia - 3
Tadpoles of Hyla [underlined] [tree frog] were seen in
several permanent [underlined] ponds along trail
between Croteau Camp + Lake Beautiful
In pond near Wood lake, tadpoles were
of large size with hind limb buds in
first stages of development. (Specimens
collected - Aug. [August] 25/43 [1943])
In pond between Lake Beautiful and
Cruckshank Canyon, at an elevation
of about 4,000' [feet] tadpoles were small
+ dark coloured, appearing at first like
those of Bufo [underlined] [toad]. Two juveniles with
tails were seen. Tadpoles collected
(Aug [August] 25 [1943]) varied much in size, the largest
heaving well developed legs; some had
mutilated tails.
Several adult Hyla [underlined] [tree frog] were observed +
several were heard croaking. The species
seems widely distributed + common on the
Plateua area.
One adult A. gracile [Ambystoma gracile - Northwestern salamander] was collected
from a partially sunken tub below Croteau
Lake + one was found under slab of
bark on lake shore - Aug [August] 25 [1943].
