- Later in the day we headed for
Strata Mtn. [Mountain] in hopes of getting a
Marmot. En route there saw a
deer and two adult blue Grouse
(Sooty Grouse) and a [words crossed out] one of these
a female with at least four
young just able to fly.
Climbing Strata I came onto
a dead deer in a gully on
which the Ravens were feeding.
They became quite excited as I
neared the carrion. I thought
for a little they had a nest nearby.
These same ravens were attacked
by a pair of Sharp Shinned Hawks
at the same locality. The raven seems
almost as good a flyer as the hawk.
No marmots seen on the mountain
but it looks like there are one or two
there.
Returning came straight across
country to Camp, via Hairtrigger [written over illegible word] Lake.
Two large Geese on the lake and
a pair of American Goldeneye. Jumped
a deer a bit later on, and
near Camp a big Cock Sooty
Grouse.
Other birds noted: Chickadee, Kinglets,
Nuthatches (white Breasted?) and Varied
Thrush. Heard a robin this morning.
The first one I have heard up here.
