PROPOSAL FOR ORGANIZATION OF TASKS FOR THE ANARCHIST SURVIVAL GATHERING
We, the Anarchist Circle, have five months to get our shit together in order to
pull off the Survival Gathering. It is not premature at this time to seriously
think about exactly what tasks need to be done, by what time they need to be done,
and who is going to take responsibility for doing them. The following are our
suggestions for organization.
OUTREACH
A survey was drafted by some people in our group which was to be sent out to get
response from the N. American anarchist community on what people were interested
in seeing at the gathering, or what people would like to talk about. We should
update this survey (if it still exists in the computer) with the proposals resulting
from Atlanta (from the upcoming MAYDAY:) and send it out a.s.a.p., perhaps by the
end of February. It should include descriptions of proposed workshops/events that
we have already discussed here in Toronto or those that are already submitted.
REGIONAL CONTACTS
Lets get a comprehensive list together of the regional contacts that exist already,
and include those contacts in this mailout. We need to send a letter to those
contacts so they know what their responsibilities are (i.e. transportation co-ordination,
fundraising, etc.) and that we have fundraising publicity materials available here
as well. Perhaps phoning directly might be better.
MONEY
Daryl has been doing a wonderful job getting together posters and t-shirts, so
why don't we start distributing them locally and in other cities?? Other ideas
we've tossed around are the rummage sale, benefit shows, etc., so let'.s go~:
HOUSING
I believe Gary has been keeping a list of housing, but I'm sure we need more spots
than he has on the list, so let's contact all Toronto anarchists and others by phone
and get a full comprehensive list together. As requests for housing come in (and
they're starting to already), we need to make sure someone co-ordinates all this.
FOOD
Let's decide on how many meals we will be providing (has one been decided?) and
whether we should provide lunches during workshops as was done in Atlanta and
worked quite well as it facilitated the flow of the day. Who's going to prepare
food or, who's going to co-ordinate people for food? Should we be asking for
donations from health food stores? Make a deal with Karma Co-op? Should we make
bulk food in advance (one month) and freeze it?
PUBLICITY
We S00uld be doing major publicity (maybe in May??) on CKLN, CIUT, CHRY, NOW magazine,
and other community/alternative media. Should we designate one or more persons as
media spokespersons/contacts?
LOCATION
It's not that great that we still don't have a confirmed location for our gathering.
519 Church would be ideal. Alternatives are the Bathurst St. church and 427 Bloor
(perhaps both together in lieu of 519). This task should be a priority at this point.
GATHERING TASKS
We will all need to take on specific tasks during, the gathering, so we should think
about them now and be prepared. People are needed for: reception/sign-in, specific
workshops, security, collecting donations and dispersing funds (if needed), as well as
much more. Someone/people will have to co-ordinate all this as well.
