- 19 Circular Box
Ming dynasty; early 17th century

The four flowers in the central medallion
on the lid are surrounded by lotus petals,
which contain the Eight Buddhist Emblems
on pedestals. The sides and the base are
decorated with simple floral patterns. The
colours include: red, white, yellow, green,
and cobalt blue, on a greenish-blue ground.

There are simple floral designs on the lid
and sides of the box. The enamel on the
sides is badly pitted and some holes are
filled with coloured wax. The wires are of
uneven thickness and show signs of split-
ting. The colours include: red, white, yel-
low, pale green, dark green, and cobalt
blue, on a turquoise-blue ground. The box
has been used for red seal ink.
