- July 24, 1965. Stag Bay, Hernando Island.
Sailed quietly from Prideaux Haven to
anchor here. Went ashore on Kinghorn
Island en route there saw
Hutton vireo Towhee
Black throated gray warbler Song sparrows
Townsend " [warbler] Ruby-cr. [crowned] kinglet
Audubon " [warbler] R. b. [Red-breasted] thrush
Yellow rumped [warbler] Swallows
Along the shore of Ragged Islets was a huge
flock of surf scoters, my estimate by
counting a sample of 200 was 700 birds
of which some 5% were [female symbol].
The caretaker of Stag Bay has a number
of semi tame deer - one had 3 warts on
its head - a large one above the right eye,
almost closing it.
Apparently some 40 families lived there
in the 1890's.
Very few alcids, pigeon guillemots only.
July 25, 1965. Secret Cove.
Good sail down Malaspina Strait.
July 26, 1965. Degnan's Cove, S. [south] end Gabriola Island.
Sailed across Georgia Strait in 4 hours
of which about 1/2 hour under power.
