  • July 24, 1965. Stag Bay, Hernando Island. Sailed quietly from Prideaux Haven to anchor here. Went ashore on Kinghorn Island en route there saw Hutton vireo Towhee Black throated gray warbler Song sparrows Townsend " [warbler] Ruby-cr. [crowned] kinglet Audubon " [warbler] R. b. [Red-breasted] thrush Yellow rumped [warbler] Swallows Along the shore of Ragged Islets was a huge flock of surf scoters, my estimate by counting a sample of 200 was 700 birds of which some 5% were [female symbol]. The caretaker of Stag Bay has a number of semi tame deer - one had 3 warts on its head - a large one above the right eye, almost closing it. Apparently some 40 families lived there in the 1890's. Very few alcids, pigeon guillemots only. July 25, 1965. Secret Cove. Good sail down Malaspina Strait. July 26, 1965. Degnan's Cove, S. [south] end Gabriola Island. Sailed across Georgia Strait in 4 hours of which about 1/2 hour under power. Only alcids seen Pigeon Guillemots
