We are grateful to the Department of Canadian Heritage through its Museum Assistance Program, for their financial support has made this exhibition and catalogue a reality. This exhibition would not have been possible without the generous donations of a number of collectors in both Canada and the United States throughout the years. Mrs. Isabel Pollard of San Francisco, in particular, donated a large number of Edo period works of art. To this nucleus, many donors, who are listed in this catalogues label information, have added important and interesting pieces.
The assistance of the following staff members has been vital to the success of the exhibition: Gillian Booth, Mike Elkink, Lori Graves, Mary Jo Hughes, Tania Muir, Chris Russell, David Seager, Nicole Stanbridge, Stephen Tpfer and volunteer, Fran Cornish. Paula Swart should be thanked for proof reading the text and Joan Padgett for skilfully editing the text. Special thanks must go to Bob Matheson and Stephen Tpfer for the difficult task of photographing these objects and Frank Reimer for the carefully considered design of the catalogue. Thanks must also go to Marie- Helene Duval for the French translation and Michiko Warkentyne for her help with translating some of the titles of the prints.
A special thanks must also be given to the National Research Institute for Cultural Properties in Tokyo, Japan for the extensive preservation of the Gallerys 17th century Kano screen from Nijo Castle. The screens preservation was not quite complete at the time of this publication, so an old photograph has been used.
