- Saw 3 red-tailed hawks, one
Swainson + an adult peregrine
Set out a short line of
traps for Perognathus [underlined] but the
night is stormy + I doubt
that the traps will have much
success.
Okanagan Ldg [Landing] - Aug [August] 7/49 [1949]
Mr [J.] Munro took 2 Perognathus [underlined]
I got 1 Microtus montanus [underlined] 2
Eutamias [underlined] + 1 Peromyscus. [underlined]
Shot a young Lewis' woodpecker
Nicola Mine, Stump Lake. Aug. [August] 8.
Left Vernon this morning + drove
by way of Barnhardtvale to Quilchena
Then took road over the range to
Minnie + [space left blank] Lakes. This is
one of the largest areas of rangeland
I have seen. The lower levels
are pitifully overgrazed while
the upper fields are in
wonderful condition with a
great deal of old bottom in
the grass.
On the lower levels horned larks
are very abundant + about 50 %
of the ground surface is covered
with pocket gopher burrow
There are apparently no Citellus
