Poured with rain this morning
but in afternoon became intermittent.
We went into the village with
the truck for supplies + on the way
back banded 2 ad [adult] + 1 yng [young] black necked
grebe in the Westwick Lake trap.
Saw 3 red tailed hawk + 1 ad [adult] Cooper
Hawk on the valley road.
In evening shot 5 Eptesicus.
Chimney Lake Aug [August] 7/48 [1948].
Cloudy with showers + intermittent
sunshine. At Westwick Lake we
banded 137 ducks + 1 grebe. A
large adult bald eagle circled
low over the lake several times
without arousing much concern
among the hundreds of waterfowl.
Broods noted on the lake were
Ruddy + 10 newly hatched and 78 ad [adult] [male symbol]'s
Canvasback 2 [2] + 10 [3]
Redhead. + 9 [2], + 9 [2], + 4 [2]
Scaup. + 11, + 6, + 7 (2 pale), + 8 (1 pale); + 5 [2]
