- Lesser Scaup.
Lac La Hache. July 17/48 [1948]
Two days ago, on Cummings Lake
we saw our first broods.
One of 6 + one of 4 + 2 redheads
both broods newly out.
4 nests had 7, 6 + 1 ruddy, 8,
+ 7 eggs.
Lac La Hache. July 24/48 [1948].
Today, on 105 mile Lake we banded
our first scaup, a flightless [male symbol] +
a brood of young 2 weeks old
Yesterday we picked up in the reeds
a juv [juvenile] scaup with its head laid
open + the back of the skull
bruised.
Lac La Hache. July 29/48 [1948].
Another brood, at Springhouse, had
redhead young in it. 3 redhead, 2
scaup but the 3 seemed a shade the
larger.
Westwick L. [Lake] Aug. [August] 4/48 [1948].
A brood seen today (class 1) had
6 dark young + 3 pale ones. Redheads
nest on this lake also.
Rush Lake. Aug [August] 17/48 [1948]
Among the large group of young
scaups taken were several still
too small to band
Clinton Aug [August] 20/48 [1948]
One brood today only just large enough to band, others full grown
