^ xix Stemcup h: 12.2 cm, Kangxi (1662-1722)
xvm Dish d: 24.7 cm, early Kangxi (1662-1722)
This famille verte dish is painted in underglaze blue and overglaze enamels with green predominating. The central medallion has a swirling design of scaly dragons and flying phoenixes among chrysanthemums and peonies. The surrounding frieze and underside have the same motif. The dragon and phoenix frequently appear together as a motif representing male and female. There is a six-character Xuande mark in double circle on the base. The use of underglaze blue rather than overglaze blue is more typical of the pre-1683 period of Kangxi.
