- Mt [Mount] Tzuhalem [Tzouhalem], Cowichan, B.C. [British Columbia] Jan. [January] 12, 1940.
Food (cont'd [continued]) On the Quamichan slope of the
mountain I worked the slash
thoroughly. There is very little
down timber + logs on the area
+ quantities of seed trees of Douglas
fir. The second growth species
are Spirea densiflora, Salix sp. [species]
+ arbutus Menziesii as dominants.
By count of 100 Millacre quadrats
there were 860 fir trees between
3" + 6' in height. Of these
100% had been deer browsed
but in the entire area covered
only 2 arbutus trees showed
signs of recent browsing +
the utilization of willow +
spirea was not of the nature
to cause brooming.
There were only signs
of the recent presence of 2
deer since the snow fall
2 days ago. It is apparently
solely a summer area.
Antlers. Only buck seen still carried them
Injuries. Found remains of a buck killed
since late August - no clue as
to cause of death.
