In company with Game Warden
[R.] Hayes of Duncan visited Mr H.
Dunning caretaker of a 60 acre
estate just north of Musgraves
Landing. He has 5 deer in
captivity 1 fork, 1 spike + 3
18 mos. [months] does.
He is observant + seemingly
accurate + not given to making
things up.
Fawns. [underlined] His fawns all lost last
trace of their spots at the age
of 5 mos. [months] In 1936 he saw
a small spotted fawn in
January and another in February
It is doubtful in such instances
that either mother or fawn
would survive.
Breeding. The fork buck is in full
rut, swollen neck, listless
walk, thin, coat rough,
carrys [carries] his ears laid back
all the time + frequently
raises his head + rolls back
the upper lip with his
mouth open. I watched him
place his tarsal pads together
+ urinate on them. This buck
has been running since
early October. Today he paid
