- Malformation (continued) Ctd [Continued] Sept [September] 14/41 [1941]
represented merely by a rounded
callused knob. A central depression
in this knob apparently contains the
shrivelled remnant of a ligament
+ suggests the possibility of the
amputation of the distal part of
the toes.
Parasites:-
Both feet of this deer heavily
infested with Onchocerca [underlined]. Some of these
were normal, others were surrounded
by a sheath of yellow material about
4 times their diameter. One in particular
had the coiled part enclosed in a mass
of this yellowish material. This I fixed
in Bouin [solution] for microscopic examination.
To test for presence of Onchocerca [underlined]
larvae I removed blood from a
dermal vein of the foot + made a
thick smear, dehaemoglobinized in
water, stained in Harris Haematoxylin,
dehydrated in Dioxan, not in Balsam.
Also removed conn. [connective] tissue from
dermis + washed this in Ringers.
allowed time for larvae to settle
then pipetted them onto slides previously
smeared with egg albumen.
