Food + Food plants.
The buds on the fir, arbutus,
huckleberry + salal are beginning
to uncurl, new leaf growth
is showing on these + also
on Berberis aquifolium [underlined] but
not on B. [Berberis] nervosa [underlined]. Salal is
in full bloom. Spirea
discolor [underlined] + all other deciduous
species are in full leaf.
By observation of deer
Spirea discolor [underlined] 37 d. m. [deer minutes]
Ground veg. 7 d. m. [deer minutes]
Huckleberry. 2 d. m. [deer minutes]
By observation of food plants
Hawkweed - eaten over wide
area.
Bracken - eaten in small
quantities when 6" to 12"
? Montia parviolia:- eaten avidly
but rare + consequently of little
import. [importance] Other 2 montias not
eaten.
Several other species being eaten -
see collection. On the other
hand a number of abundant
species are not touched; these
I think are all composite +
I will collect them later.
