- Coast Deer [underlined]
Dec. [December] 29, 1935. Tracked a large deer along
the hill behind the [Kenneth] Racey's
cottage. In one place it had
pawed through the snow down
to the labrador tea. One or
two leaves were nipped off
as if they had been eaten
but I could not be sure.
The animal bedded down on
a clear bluff overlooking the
immediate landscape + had been
facing down wind.
Oct. [October] 18, 1936. Sooke Hills, V.I. [Vancouver Island], B.C. [British Columbia]
Examined stomach contents of
young spike buck shot by Mr [Kenneth] Racey
This deer with a doe jumped
from bracken near top of Long
Ridge at 10:30 A.M. 3 other deer
jumped in low brush areas.
There has been only 3 days rain
in over a month + most of
the deer are down low.
