one of the officers in the guards division* to which we are attached at present. Hence my desire to make a little money on the side.
Received a letterfrom Lundy today. He is still at Monks Horton in Kent. Expected to be sent back to the Training School several weeks ago, but happened to figure in a ball game the day before he was to leave. How he is on the staff, with the job of looking after the ball diamond, and figures he is good for the rest of the summer, Lordy, why can't I make Blighty and grab just such a job? Their 3rd baraaman is a Victoria boy, Toots Plump, and their pitcher is an ex 10th Amb. fellow. (You know him, kid. Raw say, - played centerfield la.st summer).
My old side humper, Jim Park, deserted the ranks of the “bucks" a few days ago, and is now a full fledged lance jack. He accepted the promotion? only because he figured that it would help him in his attempt to get into the R.A.E. With that end in view, and with the consent of our O.G, he has returned to Hqrs, to proceed from there to a machine gun outfit, where he will spend a couple of weeks mastering the mechanism of the modern machine gun. I hated to see Jimmy go, for they don't make 'em any better than him. However, his mind is set on the flying game, so more power to his
elbow,
?
A few days ago I mailed you a copy of the Canadian War Pictorial which I bought at a Y near here. There are some very fine pictures in it, and if I were you I'd endeavor to obtain the three preceding numbers,
Eell better now. Have just downed a good sunner, preoared by our eminent French chef, Lave Levesque. Will finish this before I get my beauty sleep though.
Received a dandy parcel from Aunt Bessie yesterday, the first for over three weeks.. Ought to be one of yours along before " many more days have passed,.
So you are suffering from lack of rain over there, are you? Wish we were. It has rained off and on- mostly on for the past week accompanied on two occasions by violent thunder and lightening storms. Hope there's a change for the better before very long for I'd like to see a little fine weather before winter is with us again.
Had a letter from. Edie Howell today dated June 20th informing me that Harold had been sent out to Resthaven, Hot quite as convenient as Esquimalt is it? - but still there are lots of worse places to spend one's convalescence in. I suppose he'll be able to get in every wfeek end, which won't be too bad.
You ask me if there is anything special in the vegetable line that I want you to save for me. Can't say there is. All I ask is for you to save me a place at the table, then bring on your eats, and I'll guarantee to do the rest. Ceased playing favorites long ago.
