- Had supper at Maxevilles, afterwards deciding to take in a new revue that was opening that night. .Arrived at the theatre to find a long "que" waiting. Hung around for a while, hut the line not moving very fast, decided to give it up as a bad .job.
By this time it was too late to bother hunting up another show so we walked back to the Boulevard des Italieno end paraded up* and down for o while.
At this juncture I am about to introduce two new characters in my narrative. Girls at that, Charlie e.nd Iwere walking along about half a block behind the other three, when two girls passed us. v/e smiled at them, said "hello" and they replying, we stopped to have a tslk. To our surprise v/e discovered that they were English girls, in the theatrioal business. They had been doing a song end dance turn at the Hippodrone in London, but had jumped their contract to do a similar turn in a Prench revue. The revue in whioh they had been appearing had just finished a three months run, and. they had just signed up for a new one, rehearsals for which were to start in a couple of days.
Well v/e stood on the corner talking for ten minutes or so, then bid them good-bye, but not before we had ascertained their address and promiced to look them up the next afternoon. How right here Mother I want you to realize that these girls were absolutely on the level. They didn’t suggest that we call around add see them, I did that. And as you’ll find out we spent s great deal of our time down there in their company, and I can honestly say-that we would not have enjoyed our trio nearly so much had we not met them. Of course we did not meet them in the conventional manner, but why worry over a little thing like that. I am sure we didn’t.
After leaving the girls v/e promenaded around some more cut soon tired of that, so bumping into the other boys, we decided to go back to the hotel. Arriving there we sat around in Joe’s room for an hour or so, then feeling sleepy, I beat it for my downy couch first leaving a call at the office for 8 o’clock, as I wanted a bath!
Was awakened out of a sound sleep by a rap on my door, and was surprised to find that it was 8 o’clock. Had a dandy bath, then the bunch of us went down to Maxevilles for breakfast.
That important job finished, we hopped into a taxi, and majestically ordered the driver to take us out to the Eiffel Tower. As you doubtless know, it is now used as a wireless station, so we were unable to ascent it, I don’t know for just what particular purpose it was built, but it is certainly a wonderful piece of engineering.
It stands close to s thousand feet in height, and is build entirely of steel. Prench soldiers are always on guard at the base of it but we were able to approach within a few yards. The post cards will
give you some idea of the intricate nature of the steel girders'at tile uR86#
