Pear Motherand Pad,-
Sunday morning, and only ten o'clock, but it is raining heavy 'at present, so all outdoor activities have necessarily been called off. We did manatee to get in a bath narade this morning, though, leaving here at the unearthly hour- for such a. purpose- of getting back half an hour ago, and incidently getting a
fairly thorough soaking as it started to rain before we had gone a kilometre. Still, one doesn't mind that, when there's a bath in sight, for as you maysurmise, they aren't any too common.
/on very pleased to say that that inspection- a labor of love, by the way- is a thing of the past. At noon on the day before it was scheduled to come off, a rumor was circulating around tothe effect that it had been postponed-- sudden moving orders-, but happily such was not the case. It was a dirty, cold, misty morning when we naraded in full marching order for Currie to give us the "once over", Pidn't take him long, either, for he wormed up one line and down the other in double quick time. His was merely a cursory inspection, however, another "Crimson Rambler"- staff officer -- making a more painstaking survey immediately after. Seemingly my luck was in the descendency,* for out of all the men on parade, 200 , odd, he glommed onto Let e.nd .1, making us spread out our kits on ttee''"' wet ground for him to glance over. By this time a drizzly rain was coming steadily down, so you may be sure we said a few things to ourselves. Ho^'d we pair out? well, onlyfair to middlin' I guess.
Both of us lacked an extra pair of sox-- I left four pair on my bed-, and as he noted that deficiency on a sheet of paper, seemingly it counted ageinst us. As if we cared a damn! Repacked our kits, and shortly after were dismissed for the day. And I can assure you that every maa Jack of us- officers included, heaved a sigh of relief and said "Well, thafck the Lord that's over".
Played a soccer game against ttete 4th Pivision ambulance yesterday afternoon and cleaned up on them to the tune of 5 - Staged the match on a wretched pitch-- good word that wretched!- a couple of kilos from this two by twice village- we've moved since
