- Whooping Crane
Sept [September] 16, 1947. Vancouver.
Mr R.W. Turner, Bedford Fine Leathers,
Tattam 1341 phoned + reported to me
that during his 5 1/2 year stay in the
eastern arctic as an employee
of the H.B.Co. [Hudson's Bay Company] he saw whooping
cranes on several occassions [occasions]
All were seen in the vicinity
of Padlei, 120 mi [miles] N.W. [northwest] of Eskimo
Point + 300 miles N [North] of Churchill.
He has a diary giving exact
dates + will look them up.
Described the area as one of rocky
hills 360' high. He did not see
any young but the Eskimos
told him of nests.
