July 22, 1939. Saanich V.I. [Vancouver Island]
While we were seated by the
edge of the pool in the experimental
station a [male symbol] nighthawk flew
over us several times +
finally dipped low over
the water + with mouth
wide open scooped a mouthful
of water from the pool.
At the same time its wings
were set at an abrupt
angle above the body.

Saw + heard first nighthawks.
