  • Pigmy Owl. Nov [November] 1, 1935. On Oct. [October] 20 two pigmy owls answered my calls. Both were high up in large Douglas Firs at the foot of the steep, heavily wooded hill running back from the E+N [Esquimalt and Nanaimo] railroad at Mile 18. One of these birds came down into the alders where it was immediately mobbed by chickadees + kinglets. It was collected. The other flew over, high out of shotgun range + soon stopped calling. Time 11:30 A.M. Weather dull + showery. Again on Oct [October] 25, 1935 at Quarantine Lake, near Beecher Bay, V.I. [Vancouver Island], B.C. [British Columbia]. I called two pigmy owls. Again they were high up in large firs in a piece of fairly open, yet heavy fir woods. One of these was secured, the other flew at the shot. Stomach analyses. 5156 [male symbol] Empty 5160 [male symbol] Several small horny plates resembling the head bones of a small fish.
