  • Canis lupus Emigrants Mt. [mountain] June 23/46 [1946] One scat - Mouse - is the only sign of wolf activity seen so far. Banff, Alta. [Alberta] July 3/46 [1946]. Warden Chas. [Charles] Page at Windy Cabin found a wolf den at the Sulphur springs a week or so ago. It was on a bank overlooking the river + appeared to have been a reworked coyote den. Female + 4 pups all black. One female pup captured alive + seen today. two killed + one escaped They had an elk kill close to the den. Banff. July 10/1946. Visited the wolf den at Sulphur Springs + en route found two other den sites, both with habitable dens + one showing signs of at least 6 old dens of either coyote or wolf. I think the latter. Each den was on the grassy point of a knoll overlooking the river flats. Food:- Remains around the den were 1 beaver skull 1 shoulder blade + canon of deer 1 remains of yearling cow elk.
