- Ursus americanus carlottae
Rose Harbour. Aug. [August] 8/46 [1946]
No bears on Kunghit Island so far
as can be seen by signs here.
They are reported to be abundant
across Houston Stewart Channel
on Moresby Island. Charlie [Guiguet] saw
no sign of bear on Langara
or Frederick Islands. Mr [Howard] Fairbairn
reports that they are often present
in such numbers that they can
virtually block a salmon run
from getting up a small
stream. He has shot as many
as 52 in one year.
Rose Harbour - Aug. [August] 12/46 [1946]
Today saw a bear on the
southern beaches of Moresby Island.
Sandspit. Aug. [August] 31/46 [1946].
A bear had partially eaten the
buck we shot last night. We
saw it during the course of
our work their + it appeared
quite unafraid.
