  • [Typewritten copy of journal of Allan C. Brooks] adults; Least, Baird's, Western and Semipalmated Sandpipers all young. 11. No new shore birds. Black-bellied plover increasing, all are adults with black breasts Sanderlings all adult, other sandpipers are all young. 12. Left for Langara Island on I. William' fishing boat, started at 9 a.m. lots of alcids at inlet mouth. Rhino [Rhinoceros] and Cassin's auklets, marbled murrelets, a few ancient murrelets, and quantities of murres and pigeon guillemots. On the whole trip over probably Rhinoceros Auklets were the most numerous adults and young, when we got near Langara I saw adults flying with fish in their bills towards the land East of Lucy Island. Shearwaters numerous all Sooty, a few Fork-tailed petrels and 2 adult Parasitic Jaegers, light phase, 1 Sabine gull full summer dress and many Herring gulls of all ages, no other gulls except a few Glaucous- wings. Norther Phalecope [Phalarope] in big flocks as well as scattered birds all young and near Langara a good many Red Phalecopes [Phalaropes] singly, all adults about half way to winter dress. 1 taken. 13. Up east shore for a few miles, shot a young Peale's falcon but could not find it, saw 3 others, many young herons but no shore birds save one Western sandpiper juv. [juvenile] 2 adult redtail hawks and of course a great many bald eagles, ravens and rows, all very tame.
