- Ursus americanus [underlined]
Jasper. May 17, 1946.
Took a young (2 or 3 yr [year]) dark brown
bear in a no [number] 3 coyote trap. After a
struggle we roped it around
2 paws + the neck + released it
from the trap. The process would
have made an interesting picture
A large cinnamon visited the
cabin twice today.
May 18/46 [1946].
Frank Wells pointed out a grove
of Aspens, across from Athabasca
Falls, in which almost every
large tree had been climbed.
He tells me he has seen the
bears climbing these trees in
the spring to eat the new
buds or to lick them for their
sweet? sticky exudate.
Food [underlined]:- A bear had been working on
a wolf killed elk.
1 scat largely cranberries.
