- found kill there 2 months
ago. No fresh tracks.
Then went about 1/4 mile
back of Hillsdale cabin and
struck fairly fresh tracks
not over a day old. Tracking
them a short distance we
found a cow elk kill of not
over 2 days death. Area
padded down much as at
Jasper. Practically all consumed
except skeleton and head
+ neck.
Jan. [January] 3. Found wolf bed area with
well beaten trail to it
from kill. It was on a
ridge with a commanding
view of adjacent area. There
were at least 12 beds made
by wolves, completely dug to
ground, very circular, and
usually against a large
tree. Many scats and
urination posts.
Went up above behind
cabin and struck fresh
tracks which lead to dead
gray wolf. [illegible word crossed out] Snow all packed
down by wolves around the
body, which had evidently
been dragged from a den
