  • Golden Eagle [underlined] Jasper, Alta. [Alberta] May 11, 1946. Our coyote traps on Moberly Flats contained a fine adult male eagle. Two of its toes are wounded but not broken + it seems to use them all right. We brought the bird home alive + Bert [White] hooded it + attached jesses to its legs. At first it reacted very well but later seemed completely cowed + refused to stand up. " [Jasper, Alberta] May 14, 1946 Today found a female feeding on an elk carcass that lay in a brushy flat when it attempted to take off it could not + we caught the bird. Weight 12 1/2 lbs [pounds] including 2 to 3 lbs [pounds] of elk meat in crop. Legs badly injured, toe on each foot useless from earlier trap injuries. Another recent injury consisted of bullet holes through both legs, tendons severed on one leg but neither broken.
