In the last 3 days we have taken
1 ad [adult] [male symbol], 1 ad [adult] [female symbol], + 4 young around the
edge of the clearing here. I know
that there are at least 2 more
hens + 1 chick still in the vicinity.
At the moment food is almost
100% thimbleberries + the grouse
haunt the deep jungles of these
bushes.
Just now the birds are moulting
heavily + in very poor plumage.
Have seen many places when
grouse have been roosting under
logs. Large piles of dung + some
shed feathers. To me this habit
would indicate an absence of
terrestrial predators.
