- from one end to the other
by wolves. Many beds,
scats, etc.
Jan. [January] 8. [1946] Returned to hillsdale area
and working out many
wolf trails found another
calf elk kill about 1/2 way
down the hillside in very
steep country with much thick
brush. Kill was from 10 -
14 days old as determined
by very light (1" [inch]) covering
of snow over the frozen
blood on the snow. Found
skin and one leg plus a
jaw bone. Blood on trail
showed calf had been hit
from 3 sides, much blood
then had fallen 50 ft [feet] down
hill before dying, where we
found remains, including
paunch.
Jan. [January] 9. Examined 79 fresh wolf
scats picked up at Hillsdale.
All elk remains, mainly
calf elk..
