Started at 4. Beat to Windward
in Malaspina Strait, after 2
Whales, but at 9 gave up. Ran
around head of Island. Came to
anchor under Texada Island
Under Cape Laso [Lazo], fired 3
Bombs at Cow & [and] Calf. Both
Came for Boat. The Calf struck
boat & [and] stove in side. Had to
cut line 20 fathoms, Iron & [and] 3 Bombs

got no chance

Bay for Water

Crossed Gulf and anchored
near Cape Laso [Lazo]. Went to
Comox & [and] got supplies.

Tuesday July 29
Stood up Gulf. Saw some Whales
Paddled all day. Got no chance.

Wednesday July 30
Calm & [and] warm. Worked down
Malaspina Strait. Saw several
whales. Anchored at night
near Bargain Harbor.

Thursday July 31
Worked down to Buccaneer Bay.
Several Whales around. No Show.
---
Friday August 1
S.E. Blow. Got under Weigh
Lowered for 2 Whales. Tired
& [and] Iron broke at swivel.
Lost Iron & [and] Whale. Got
another chance. Tired and
fastened, but Iron drawed.
