  • LEFT PAGE 160 Bark Alethea Wooden. Built in Holland and very old. Condemmed while loaded for China with a cargo of lumber. Sold at auction in Esquimalt Harbor for $3500 to N. Bichard of Frisco [San Francisco] Name altered to Remejio and runs to Frisco [San Francisco] in the Nanaimo Coal Trade Captain Palmquist --- Ship Sarza Wooden. Built in Quebec, Was formerly called Black Eagle Condemmed at Valparasio and sold, and renamed Sarza Capt [captain] Stoecker. Condemmed and sold at Esquimalt to Capt [captain] Hughes (of the Edwin) for $3500. Loaded with lumber under the name of Black Eagle for Valparaso, and was a total wreck on Easter Island --- Bark Swordfish Iron. Scotch Built. Capt [captain] Shandly Came up in ballast from Frisco [San Francisco] Bound for Hastings Mill. Built in 1865. Struck on Bedford Rock near Sooke in a calm. Sold at auction to Iresfratt for $1050. He stripped her clean and her hull shipped off and sunk in deep water Total wreck. --- RIGHT PAGE 161 Bark "Deleware" Wooden. Wrecked at Fisguard Lighthouse. In ballast. Caught in a snow storm. Sold at auction to Moody & [and] Co [company]. Was floated and repaired and sold in China. --- Steamer "Active" Wooden Side Wheel. Formerly called the Gold Hunter. Afterwards sold to U.S. Government and called the Active. Afterward sold and used as a passenger vessel to Frisco [San Francisco]. While coming up to Victoria under Capt [captain] Lyons, ran ashore in a fog near Cape Mendicino. All hands saved. Vessel a total loss. Some Cargo also saved --- Bark "Nanette" Wooden. Wrecked at Race Rocks in 1861, while coming in from London with a vluable cargo. Vessel a total loss. Cargo nearly all saved, and sold at auction in a damaged state. --- Ship "Rosedale" ---
