Heavy S.E. Blow. At 8 got
under weigh and worked
down coast. Saw some whales
but sea too heavy to lower
Boats. Got into Harbor
at 3 P.M. Saw one Whale.
Lowered and got a good
chance. Gun missed fire.
An Awful night. S.E. gale

Tuesday June 17
S.E. Heavy Sea. Wind
& [and] rain. At 7 got under
weigh and worked up harbor
toward Mosquetta [Mosquito] harbor. Saw
one Whale. Lowered and
followed for 2 hours, in a
very rough sea, and very
heavy squalls. Got no chance
at 4 started up towards H.B. [Hudsson's Bay]
Co. [company] store at Skidegate.
Anchored above Cluie [Clew] Ranch

Wednesday June 18
Came in calm. At 9 got
under weigh and stood up
coast. A dangerous and
broken coast. Very Rocky
with heavy swell. At 2 A.M.
was opposite Skedance Ranch
and at 10 came to anchor
at Entrance to Skidegate
Channel. Very Shoal Water
all around 2 1/2 - 3 & [and] 5 Fathoms

Thursday June 19
Came in calm. Got up anchor
at 9 and at 11:30 dropped it
opposite Skidegate Ranch. At
12 took boat and went to H.B.Co. [Hudson's Bay Company]
Store at Q.C. [Queen Charlotte] Coal Co. [company] Wharf and
purchased Various supplies
for Schooner.

Started down. Calm. Made
no progress. Drifted about all day.

Light S.E. Breeze, head wind
Got to Skidance Ranch and
drifted about all night.

Sunday June 22
Calm. At 10 oclock light N.E.
Breeze. Got a shot at Whale
Iron struck but did not fasten.

Calm. Worked about harbor all day.

Tuesday June 24
Came to anchor near Hot Springs.

Wednesday June 25
Thick Fog. Overhauled and
tarred Ropes, scraped Masts, Etc.

Thursday June 26
Thick Fog. Finished cleaning up Vessel.

Friday June 27
Fog cleared a little. Saw 3
Whales. Went after them but
could not get a chance.

Saturday June 28
Light Westerly Wind. Sailed about
all day. Saw no Whales.

Sunday June 29
Calm. No Whales seen.
125 days out.

Monday June 30
At 6 A.M. got under weigh
and coming on a heavy S.W.
Blow stood down, undecided
whether to go below or stay a
few days longer. Our general
impression is that the Gulf
is preferrable for Whales. Got
to Anchor at 5 P.M. Sheltered
from S.W. gale. Saw no
Whales.
