132 "Fried Potatoes"
Peel good sized potatoes. Slice
them as evenly as possible Then
drop them into ice water. Have
Fried a Kettle of lard, as for fried
Potatoes cakes and very hot. Put a few
at a time into a towel, shake
them about to dry them, and
then drop them into the hot
lard. Stir them occasionally, and
when of a light brown, take
them out with a skimmer.
If done properly they will not
be at all greasy, but crisp outside
and mealy within. June 12 1875

Soldering Fluids
For Tin - 1 part muriatic acid
with as much zinc as it will dissolve
add 2 parts water and some Salammoniac
For Zinc [replacing struckthrough For Brass and Copper] 1 #b [pound] Muriatic Acid
2 [correcting struckthrough 5] oz [ounces] Salammoniac, with all the zinc it
will dissolve and 3 pints Water
Soldering For Iron - 1 #b [pound] Muriatic Acid, 6 oz [ounces]
Fluids sperm Tallow, 1 oz [ounce] SalAmmoniac
For Gold & [and] Silver - 1 #b [pound] Muriatic Acid
8 oz [ounces] Sperm Tallow, 8 oz [ounces] Sal Ammoniac.
For Brass & [and] Copper - 1 #b [pound] Muriatic Acid
4 oz [ounces] zinc, 5 oz [ounces] Salamoniac

"Celluloid"
Celluloid is a species of Collodian and
gun Cotton. Common Cotton, the
refuse of Cotton Mills, and other
vegetable fibre, is dipped in a liquid
composed of Nitric and Sulphuric Acid
then drained, washed in water, and
dried, when it is found to contain very
Explosive qualities and is called "Gun Cotton"
Celluloid and has twice the Strength of gunpowder.
This prepared Gun Cotton may be dissolved
in Ether and Alcohol, when it forms a
thick transparent liquid Known as Collodian.
Celluloid is made from Collodian by a
peculiar process and mixing it with
camphor, when it forms a white
substance muched used in the arts.
The manufacture is a very dangerous
and Even all materials made from
it, are dangerous. A lighted
match will make a celluloid Shirt
collar burn like a torch. Celluloid
is made from Collodian by heat
and pressure
