How to measure a Vessel
Multiply length Breadth and
depth together and divide
by 100 - Thus a vessel
124 feet long
24 feet wide
5 foot deep
Measures 148 Tons 80/100

But she can carry 300 Tons Coal

To Test for Silver
Powder the ore - Dissolve it
in Nitric Acid - Pour off the
liquid and at to it a solution
of common salt. If a white
powder falls to the Bottom, which
upon exposure turns black,
there is silver in it.

To Make Good Whitewash
Take a clean tight Cask,
Put in 1/2 a bushell of Lime,
Slack it by putting in Boiling
water to cover it 5 inches deep,
stir it all time well. When it
is slacked [slaked], dissolve in water
and add 1 #b [pound] common salt. If you
want cream color, add 3 #bs [pounds]
yellow ochre. Also put in 1/2
#b [pound] Glue to a barrel of Whitewash
to make it stick well.

Wash to clean Silver or plate
Plunge it for 1/2 and hour in a
bath made of
1 gallon Water
1 #b [pound] hyposulphate of lime [struck through] Soda
8 oz [ounces] muriate of ammonia
4 oz [ounces] Liquid ammonia
4 oz [ounces] Cyanide of Pottasium
but you can leave the Cyanide
out if you like, as it is
very dangerous to use
