Liquid Glue
#1 Fill a bottle 2/3 full of common
glue, and fill up with whiskey.
Cork it up and set it bye for 3 or
4 days. It will dissolve without
application of heat
#2 Soak in cold water all the best
common glue you wish to make at one
time, using glass, earthenware or a
Liquid porcelain dish. Dissolve in the same
Glue water by gentle heat, then add
from 1/2 oz [ounce] to 1 oz [ounce] Nitric Acid to each
pound of glue, til it gets a sour taste.
#3 Acetic Acid 1 oz [ounce]. Pure soft water
6 oz [ounces] glue 3 oz [ounces]. Gum Tragacanth 1 oz [ounce]
Mix and if not thick enough add
a little more glue. November 11 1871

Cleaning Brass
1 Tablespoonfull Oxalic Acid,
Cleaning Add 1/2 pint soft water, Add 2
Brass Tablespoonsfull Tripoli. Allow the
mixture to stay on a few minutes
and wipe off with woolen Rags

Cement for Cast Iron
#1 Six parts of Pulverized Clay, 1 part
of Iron filings. Make into a paste with
Boiling Linseed oil, and apply hot
Cement #2 Equal parts of Salt and Sifted ashes
moistened with water. Drive in with a mallet
and dry slowly over a fire. March 9 1872

Erysipilas October 1891
Dust the face very often with dry
powdered starch, or dry flour
Erysipilas will answer as well.
Take 15 drops Muriated Tincture of
Iron Every 4 hours.
Take 1 Tablespoonfull of good Brandy
Every 4 hours, but taken so that it
comes 2 hours after the Iron.

Brick Dust Cement
Cement Hard Burnt, finely pulverized Bricks, are
mixed with common Lime and sand, and
make a splendid hydraulic cement. March 19 1872

Sores on Leg
To 1 pint Sweet Milk, a heaped up
Sore Leg teaspoonfull full of pulverized Alum is
added while stirring the milk, which
must be hot enough to curdle it. Pour
off the whey and use the Curd. Mar 9 1872

Soldering To tin an Iron, file it bright. Heat it
Iron dip it in Nitric Acid and rub in Tin.

Fitting Keys
When it is not conveniant to take a
Fitting lock apart to fit a new Key, the
Keys Key Blank should be smoked over
a candle then inserted into the
Keyhole and pressed against the
wands. The indentation will show
where to file
