  • LEFT PAGE 12 Remidy [Remedy] for Cholera or the Diarreha [Diarrhea] Cure Take Equal parts of V. Tincture of Opium for Red Pepper Rhubarb the Peppermint Camphor Cholera and mix together. Dose ten to 30 drops. In case of diarreha [diarrhea] and 10 to 20 drops in 3 or 4 teaspoonsful of water. Used Diarreha in New York in 1849 for the [Diarrhea] Cholera and found A. 1. Scientific American Aug 12 1873 --- To remove Clinkers from Cooking Stove Throw in 3 & [and] 4 oyster shells while hot and leave them. That cleans them --- To transfer Engravings to glass Varnish the glass with Balsom of Fir and Alcohol. Place the picture face down on the glass, and then when it is smooth, commence to rub off the paper with the finger & [and] water - only be carefull [careful]. --- Remedy for the Croup Teaspoonful of powdered alum. 2 Teaspoonsful of powdered sugar - a good Cure --- To Clean Paint work 1 oz [ounce] Powdered Borax 1 # [pound] small pieces Brown Soap 3 quarts water - Simmer till all is dissolved and Stir frequently, but do not let boil. Use with a piece of old flannel and rinse off with cold water --- RIGHT PAGE 13 Babbit Metal Melt 4 #bs [pounds] Copper. add by degrees 12 #bs [pounds] best tin, 8 #bs [pounds] regulus of antimony and then 12 #bs [pounds] more tin. After the last 4 or 5 #bs [pounds] of tin have been added, reduce the heat to a dull red, and then add rest of tin. --- To remove paint. Use Caustic Soda or Concentrated Lye, dampen or dissolve and apply --- Hydroflouric [Hydrofluoric] Acid will dissolve glass and can olny be kept in gold or platinum vessels --- A percussive drill (Steam) with 3 inch cylinder and 6 inch stroke, making 300 to 375 strokes per minute, will drill in coarse Gneiss Rock - 3 1/2 inch holes at the rate of 3 inches - 1 3/8 holes at the rate of 4 1/2 inches - and 1 inch holes at the rate of 5 inches per minute --- "Practical guide to the determination" "of minerals by the Blowpipe" by Doc.
